About
Technology doesn't have to be daunting
BNIT Solutions Ltd. was founded by Ben Nicholson, who spent years working inside reputable IT businesses across the Okanagan before striking out on his own. That experience left a clear impression: most businesses don't need a pre-defined service package — they need someone who understands how their business actually runs, and builds the technology around it.
That's the company's whole premise. With the right guidance, you can have both: affordable support and technology that propels your business forward — without paying for things you don't use or being talked down to in jargon.
How we work
Root causes, not workarounds. A problem patched over comes back. We'd rather spend an extra hour finding why something broke than fix the same symptom every month on your bill.
Plain English, always. It's our business to know the technicalities — the acronyms, the firmware versions, the fine print. It's not yours. The only question a business owner should ever have to ask is "Will this make my business better?" — and our job is to make the answer to that question clear, honest, and jargon-free.
A direct line. When you call BNIT, you reach the person who designed and manages your environment. No tiers, no ticket purgatory.
Proactive by default. Every environment we manage is monitored around the clock. The best support call is the one that never has to happen.
"The most dangerous phrase in the language is, 'We've always done it this way.'"
Meet Ben
I got my start in tech back in the early 1990s, when our family brought home a 386 computer. I "played with it" often enough that my dad ended up taking a course just to learn how to fix what I'd broken — and I learned right alongside him, looking over his shoulder. That curiosity never really left. Throughout my childhood I was constantly taking devices apart, putting them back together a little differently, and figuring out how they actually worked.
As an adult, I actually stayed away from a career in IT for a while — it was the place I went to escape from work, not the work itself. But eventually the pull was too strong to ignore, and I went back to school for a diploma in Network Security, graduating in 2018. Since then, I've worked with an incredibly wide range of clients — banks, manufacturing companies, non-profits, hotels, and just about everything in between — helping them keep their networks secure and their systems running.
Along the way, I noticed a pattern here in the Okanagan: small businesses needed IT support just as much as the big players, but the major providers in the area often locked even basic help behind paywalls that simply weren't realistic for a small business's budget. That's what led me to start BNIT Solutions — with a clear mission to be the IT partner that actually shows up for small businesses. I've made it a point that when I tell a client they need to spend money on something, it's because it's genuinely necessary — and I'll always explain exactly why, so you're never left guessing.
If there's one thing people tell me most, it's that I have a knack for explaining complicated technical problems in plain, relatable terms. I don't believe in jargon for the sake of jargon — if something's broken, you deserve to understand why, in language that actually makes sense. I've always felt that having a skillset like this comes with a responsibility to share it, so even outside of work hours, I'm usually the person offering advice, troubleshooting a friend's laptop, or pointing someone in the right direction. That mindset carries directly into how I work with clients — I'm not just there to fix the problem in front of me, I want you to walk away actually understanding your systems a little better than before.
I also take a "see it through" approach: if a problem is stubborn, so am I, and I won't stop until it's solved — not because anyone's asking me to, but because that's just how I'm wired. Outside of work, you'll usually find me tinkering with automations in my custom-built smart home, or out at the lake with a fly rod in hand — that's where I go to reset and recharge.
